The city of Wauchula is the county seat of Hardee County, Florida. Wauchula is only an hour from cosmopolitan Tampa, the finest white sand beaches of the Gulf Coast, the magic of Orlando, Lake Okeechobee and the Everglades. Heritage Park is near a wide variety of stores and is a great place for a picnic and community events.
The Florida Cracker Trail was selected as a Community Millennium Trail. An annual Cracker Trail ride is now held the last full week in February of each year. The ride begins at a site just east of Bradenton, Florida, and ends with a parade through downtown Ft. Pierce, Florida, a total of approximately 120 miles. Each day's ride is approximately 15 to 20 miles in length. The purpose of the ride is to draw attention to Florida's horse and cattle heritage.
Paynes Creek Historic State Park is a Florida State Park located one-half mile southeast of Bowling Green, Florida. On November 21, 1978, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. Activities include canoeing, kayaking, fishing, and bird and butterfly watching. Amenities include a number of historic sites, three picnic pavilions, and a museum at the visitor's center that recreates pioneer life.
Solomons Castle is the the home and galleries of internationally known artist and sculptor, Howard Solomon. The Castle, built by the artist's own hand, contains galleries of his art and more than 80 interpretive stained glass windows. The Boat in The Moat is a replica of a 16th century Spanish galleon and houses the Castle's restaurant. Walk along the magnificent nature trail in the sylvan setting of picturesque Horse Creek.
Hardee County is linked to the State Highway System by SR-62, SR-64, Sr-636 and SR-663. The nearest airport with scheduled commercial airline service is the Sarasota/Bradenton International Airport.
The University of South Florida, Webber College, Florida Southern College, Warner Southern College and the South Florida Community College are located within Hardee County.
